About Terry
Hi. I'm Terry Fowler -- a North Carolina Tarheel by birth and choice. I've lived in North Carolina for my entire life and can't think of any other place I'd rather be.
I'm single and the second oldest of five kids -- three brothers and one sister. For sure, there was never a dull moment around our house.
I love reading and in my youth considered the possibility of becoming a librarian but family finances prevailed and I went to business school instead. By day I work as Administrative Support Staff for the Water and Sewer Authority but by night (and often lunch breaks) I become Terry Fowler, Inspirational Romance Author. I don't wear a cape or anything glamorous like that but I do hang out with some interesting characters.
Little did I know that books would play a different role in my life. I started writing sometime around the early 70's. I submitted often, believing I had to keep something out there if I wanted to be published (after all an editor can't buy what they don't have). I got rejected but I also received some truly good feedback from editors that kept me writing when I might have given up.
Although on those times I threatened to quit, my sister told me I could stop breathing easier. You know, she's probably right.
Even though I worked full time, the desire to write remained. I wrote after work and late into the night, typing that first manuscript on a rented manual typewriter. I still write during lunch hours and after work and on weekends. Not so late into the night except for maybe on Fridays or Saturdays.
After losing my parents in 1991 and being granted a second chance at life after my own 1992 cancer incident, I came to realize I couldn't do it alone. I gave my life to God and haven't looked back.
When I became a Christian, it became more difficult for me to write secular fiction. I was very close to quitting and prayed that God would provide a market for my books. One day, I received a bundle of advertising cards in the mail and there was one for Barbour Publishing's inspirational book club Heartsong Presents. God had provided!
Heartsong Presents purchased my first book, A Sense of Belonging, and published it in October of 1998, exactly 20 years after I received my first rejection (no kidding - it really did happen!). Since then, they have contracted a total of eight novels and three anthologies. I fully believe that following God's plan for my life is what gave me my success.
I am so grateful for the service this Christian book club provides. I not only write for them, I am a member and if you're looking for wholesome, entertaining fiction, check them out. You can call 1-800-847-8270 to subscribe or visit their website at Heartsong Presents. You won't be disappointed.
If you asked where I gt my ideas, I'd say God plants the seeds in my head. I love to see my characters grow within the pages of the story and listen as they talk to me (I'm an auditory writer and they do love to talk). Even more I love sharing my Christian witness with my readers. I work at writing books I pray will always be pleasing to Him.
Writing is such an integral part of my life. I love the mystery of creation -- putting together ides that tell a story that I hope captivates the reader and makes them seek more is always the challenge. My prayer is that every story I write gives God the glory.
My other interests are working in my church, reading, genealogy, gardening and spending as much time as possible with family and friends.
As for what my future holds, I leave that in God's more than capable hands. He has blessed me many times over and I know He will continue to do so because I am a child of God.
Terry
