While shopping at WalMart today, I found myself in the book/magazine aisle. I'm a big fan of the Barbour books with state titles. I love the south so North Carolina definitely caught my eye. I purchased your book and another titled San Diego (I'm a native Southern Californian transplanted these past 27 years to Missouri).

I just wanted to let you know I'll be reading your book first. I'm an avid reader with a desire to be a writer. Story lines are to difficult for me but I do enjoy writing devotionals. I'll let you know how much I liked North Carolina.

Terry, I am currently reading Carolina Pride and enjoying it very much.  I am a Christian and without the Lord in my life I wouldn't be the woman that I am today.  My husband of 37 years had quadruple bypass surgery so I understand the anxiety that Liza and her Mother went through with her Dad's surgery.  Unlike Mr. Stephens though, my husband did not have a heart attack. His cardiologist said if he had, he would not have survived.  His blockages were all in the left main arteries, the one they call the Widow maker's disease.  Well, Praise the Lord, I am happy to say that it may be called that but it didn't make one of me.  He was in the hands of the great Physician as well as believing and knowledgable doctors here on earth.  This may be the first of your books I've read but it won't be the last.  I hope that God inspires and allows you to write for HIM for many many books and years.  Thank you.

I have just finished reading your book "North Carolina". I so much enjoyed this book. It is refreshing to know that there are authors like you, that write stories that are inspirational and fun to read. We have a lot in common, as I like to write children's stories and mail them to my grandchildren. When my daughter and family lived in France for almost two years, I would write stories for my four grandchildren and mail them for my daughter to read to them. They really enjoyed that. Also I too love genealogical research. I just recently found the gravesite of my great, great grandfather that fought in the civil war.
Well, I just wanted to  thank you for your great work. Keep on writing great stories. I plan to purchase more. May God bless you!

I just had to say that I am NOT a book reader, but I have really enjoyed North Carolina! I really had no expectations... I want to read more, but never seem to find a book that can hold my interest. The cover brought me in, and then the idea of 3 stories in one book somehow seemed achievable for someone who doesn't read much, or doesn't get much time to read. I thought, I can read the first story in a short amount of time, I can do this. I have only read the first two stories, but I am so interested in reading more! That's when I checked out the publishers website and then yours!

Just wanted to say thanks! I feel like I am stimulating my brain, getting a break from tv, and having a good time actually relaxing on my porch (which is what I always say I am going to do, now I am doing it).

And I wasn't even aware that it was "Christian" based, I mean I noticed it in the first story, but it wasn't til I was telling my friends and I read the preface that I really understood. And reading about the fictional characters with there struggles and triumphs with life and God is inspiring as well. I have told all my girlfriends and plan to give these books as gifts.

Sorry to go on, hope you don't mind the email, but thank you for giving me something great to read!

Lori

I am writing to indicate total enjoyment of your book The Christmas Mommy. I am totally blind and I am so blessed to be able to read Heartsong Presents books using a computer scanner with optical recognition software and then the synthesized voice on my computer reads the books to me. I feel so blessed that not only is there a lot of Christian fiction out there now but I am so blessed to be able to read it.

It was so refreshing to see a writer who is loyal to the state of her birth. I also like how the characters are used to further the kingdom of God. Carolina Pride is a definite read for North Carolinians and lovers of great fiction alike.

I loved your story (Home for Christmas), Terry!  It was very warm and charming, with interesting characters and  good, solid relationship issues with convincing underlying problems.  You write well, with good tight dialogue.  I liked the clever way you launched straight into the story, bringing the two major characters together and immediately introducing one of the major sources of conflict between them.  Very effective!  Angelina was a well drawn character -- sympathetic to the reader, feisty, assured, yet with an underlying thread of internal conflict.  I liked her very much.  As I did Wes.  Another very well drawn character.  You should be very proud of this novella, Terry.

In DOUBLE TAKE, Terry Fowler gives the reader a look inside of a struggling Christian marriage. Hurting and angry that her husband left without a word of explanation, Casey must decide whether or not to take him back. Zach is struggling in the hospital after an accident and desperately wants to prove to his wife that their love is worth fighting for.

The concept is fresh and the characters real. I enjoyed this book a great deal and recommend it completely.

As a small boy, Kenan Montgomery spent a terrifying night locked in a funeral parlor. Since then, he's been absolutely terrified of death and all things connected to it. That's why it's no laughing matter when, in the humor-filled A SENSE OF BELONGING (4), Kenan finds himself falling in love with a funeral director. Only God knows the answer, and Sharley is trusting Him to make a way. New author Terry Fowler has a smooth, pleasant style, peppered with a wicked sense of humor that readers will surely enjoy.

Charlotte Montgomery, mortician, feels at home in operating the Montgomery-Sloan Funeral Home in Samuels, North Carolina. Kenan is on a mission for his boss, Sam Samuels, to arrange his funeral and find out if Sharley is Sam's granddaughter. Sam wants Kenan to bring her to Boston to see him. A relationship blossoms between them, Kenan wants her in his life, but Sharley is a small town country girl. Sharley desperately loves Kenan but wants no part of life in the big city and Kenan's loss of faith worries her. Sam's death causes everything to change, including Kenan. A poignant story dealing with a wide range of emotions, from forgiveness to finding trust in the Lord. The small town atmosphere and host of lovable characters are the perfect backdrop for this fast paced plot. Some of the funeral parlor scenes will tickle your funny bone. You'll be thinking the Lord sure works in mysterious ways when love does not run smoothly. Welcome to new author Terry Fowler and anticipating more delightful reading in the future.

Terry Fowler's witty, yet touching, inspirational romance, A Sense of Belonging, is a story rich in family history sweeping across three generations. As Sharley Montgomery reads her late grandmother's journals, she learns that her grandparents' "fated" romance echoes the new love she finds in Kenan Montgomery. Though their romance seems hopeless, Sharley's heart is opened by what she reads in the journals. And as she learns that forgiveness and love can overcome what appears to be insurmountable problems , Kenan realizes that faith in God and a sense of belonging generates a love that heals and surpasses his deepest dreams. Reading A Sense of Belonging brings a mixture of smiles and tears.

Gail Martin, Heartsong Presents Author, SEASONS November 1998

A SENSE OF BELONGING, by Terry Fowler. This delightful story has some hilarious dialogue and situations. Sharley Montgomery is a fun-loving mortician in the small North Carolina town settled by her ancestors. Kenan Montgomery is a Boston CEO who fears death. He meets Sharley at her funeral home and is almost done in by a prank Sharley's two assistants have set up for her. Their humorous meeting sets the tone for the rest of the story. Sharley has roots in her small town, and he's CEO of a big city business, and neither wants to give up their homes. How does Kenan's boss figure in Sharley's life? Why did he send Kenan from Boston, to a small North Carolina town to make funeral arrangements? Terry Fowler has made writing seem easy, because the reading was so easy. The story rushes from page one right to the end, and it's impossible to put this book down.

Jane LaMunyon, author of Heartsong Presents books "Fly Away Home," and "Escape On the Wind." Jane is current President of High Desert Romance Writers of America.

Terry Fowler brings a sense of spirit and love to her first novel, A Sense of Belonging. Confronting issues of the heart and spirit, life and death, painful past and new beginnings sounds like a big task, but Terry manages to interweave them into a very human story. Sharley, the practical joke playing Funeral Director shows Kenan that love can overcome obstacles, but when that love includes God. Sharley learns that forgiveness is sometimes easier said than done, but only when she can truly let go of her past can she look to the future. Heartsong is a line of Christian romance that takes what Grace Livingston Hill started back when my mother and grandmother were younger and moves it into a contemporary setting, but loses nothing of the heart and soul that makes Christian romance a thriving category after all these years. Terry Fowler proved with A Sense of Belonging that she is one of the new writers that will carry the line into the new millenium.

Holly Fuhrmann, THIS OLD HOUSE, Precious Gems August 1998

A SENSE OF BELONGING, Miss Fowler's first novel, reflects both her belief and her humor. This delightful story introduces Sharley Montgomery -- a fun-loving mortician in a small NC town - and Kenan Montgomery -- a Boston CEO who has been terrified of death since being locked in a funeral parlor as a small child. These two opposites are attracted to each other but neither wants to give up their homes. She wants the small town life she loves and he wants to live in Boston. This novel is peppered with lovable characters and charming situations that will keep you smiling right up to the happy end.
